THE RULES
All pieces can move horizontally, vertically and diagonally. Moves are allowed both forward and backward. Movement can either be to an unoccupied position or to an opponent occupied position, resulting to the capture of the opponent piece.
The maximum steps allowed for each “Numbered” piece is defined by its given value, with all intermediate steps also allowed. “X” pieces can only move by single steps.
To win a game you have to eliminate both opponent "X" pieces without losing yours. Eliminating both opponent "X" pieces, even while having lost one of yours, still hands you the win.
LEARN MORE
Crussato is an easy to learn, yet highly strategical board game. Its minimal and simple ruleset allows new players of all ages to rapidly engage in action, while reserving great challenges for the traditional 8x8 board veterans.
The game was designed by Savvas Efstratiadis and it was first presented in October 2018. He is a freelance Software Engineer located in Greece.
DRAW CASES
When all 4 or just 2 opposing "Exes" are the only pawns left on the board AND the next move cannot result to a capture, a draw is enforced.
TURNS
The Black pieces make the first move, followed by alternating turns for each player.
PUZZLES
The "PUZZLE" button generates typical middle-game scenarios at which no pawn has crossed the middle line and both "X" pieces are at their original position.
Both players are given an equal amount of pawns, ranging from 4 to 6 pieces, but their overall power is, almost never, equally balanced.
The principle is to offer you a quick game that will help you practice and improve your skills without having to play new games from scratch.
PROMOTIONS
Both “One” pieces of each player are eligible for promotion when they reache the opponents base row. The player is at that point entitled to replace that “One” piece with any of the captured pieces he has previously lost, including a lost “X”.
This rule is reserved for the boxed version of the game, our online gaming network and for future real-life Tournament events. Respectively, it is not implemented on this version.
PLAYING TIPS
Whites "brain" is not even close to a real human opponent. It is habitual and can easily be trapped. Learn its flaws and hit it hard!
Always try to hit high value opponent pawns with your lowest value pawn and keep an eye for opponent hits that are lurking in the distance.
HOW TO
Click the pawn you want to move to activate it. Clicking on the same pawn will deactivate it, while clicking on another pawn will move activation to that pawn.
Click on a highlighted square to make your move. Empty positions are highlighted in green, while opponent occupied positions are highlighted in red.
All buttons are operational only after the White "player" has replied to your last move.
You can visit all menu sections without losing the current game state. Touch or click on the Crussato title at the top from any page to return to your game.

ABOUT
Crussato is designed to be an easy to learn, yet highly strategical board game. Its minimal and simple ruleset allows new players of all ages to rapidly engage in action, while reserving great challenges for the traditional 8x8 board veterans.
This version offers an introduction to the game considering the avarage player and does not provide for a master class opponent.
We are working hard to prepare both a boxed version and an online gaming network so you can try your skills with friends at home, as well as other players around the world.
Crussato, as a word, is a neologism to define in a single word the term "Crux Decussata", also known as "St Andrews Cross", also known as "Saltire"; a simple X shaped crucifix. The symbol is imprinted on the games highest valued pieces.
The game was designed by Savvas Efstratiadis and it was first presented in October 2018. Savvas is a freelance Software Engineer located in Greece.
Enjoy!
